Zürich Tram

2016-18 for VBZ & Bombardier

  • The tram design reflects the city of Zürich: The shape is inspired by the modern geometrical shape of the tram stop pavilions that are part of the city since the 1920ies. The simple tram exterior shape fits harmoniously into the city. The CMF mirrors the urban environment with dashes of green.

  • The major challenge of this project was the trade-off between imposed technical limitations and the idealistic design concept that fits to the city and yet fullfils the publics expectation.

  • Zürich, as a very proud city, wanted to have the most beautiful tram in Europe. The last version of the tram designed by Pininfarina in 2002 is very loved by the citizen.

reinterpreting
the city

Cities have different colors depending on where you stand and look: If passengers look in the driving direction they will discover green refreshing shades on the side panels.

The integrated hooks on the seat frames offer convenience and comfort to passengers. Here they can hang their shopping bags, umbrellas, or dog leashes, making the journey easier and more pleasant.
